Some people can’t stand to see other people happy. It sucks, but that’s life.
Regardless, I wouldn’t let an unhappy, miserable, or toxic person make me unhappy and change who I am. Misery loves company. So naturally, negative people who are unhappy with themselves and their lives are more than eager to have others join in on their negativity and rain on other people’s parades, smearing nothing but negative energy all over other people’s happiness. And who wants to be a part of something like that?
I don’t know about you, but I don’t want anything to do with anyone like that. I want to be happy and surround myself with people who know how to be happy too.
I know life isn’t perfect or fair. I know it won’t always have ideal circumstances, but if and when the happy and joyful moments come, I want to celebrate and be present for them. I don’t want to dread what’s next, or worry, or anticipate the worst. I want to smile, cry happy tears, and spread positive vibes. I refuse to let unhappy people make me unhappy. I want to do my best to keep my distance from negativity. I don’t want to be a whiner or complainer or a naysayer. I want to be an encourager, a cheerleader, and a person who lifts others up instead of tearing them down. And while I may not be able to completely get away from negative people or negative situations all the time, I can choose how to respond to them.
When unhappy people are complaining, I’ll walk away and think about the things that are going right in life.
When unhappy people are gossiping, I’ll change the conversation and shift the energy in the room.
When unhappy people are being ingrates, I’ll be thankful for what I have instead of focusing on what I don’t.
When unhappy people are being rude, I’ll remain kind and wish them well.
When unhappy people are coming at me or others for being happy, I’ll still choose to be happy anyway.
Life is so precious, and none of us are promised tomorrow. So I want to spend the time and energy I do have focusing on what makes me happy instead of people and things that make me unhappy. I’m not going to let unhappy people make me unhappy. And I hope you won’t let unhappy people make you unhappy either.
